Battle of the Bag

Plastic bags. Billions of the handy throwaway items are used around the world every year. They take hundreds of years to biodegrade and have sparked heated debates in cities from San Francisco to Mumbai.

This documentary gets a handle on the bag battle. From the big oil employees who brought the bag to America - to the Nobel laureate fighting for a bag ban - to the retired German schoolteacher who holds the world's record for the most plastic bags, the film takes stock of this icon of convenience culture.

Heart Attacks And Drinking Warm Water

This is a very good article. Not only about the warm water after your meal, but about Heart Attacks .. The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals, not cold water, maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating.

For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

Common Symptoms Of Heart Attack...
A serious note about heart attacks - You should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting . Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line ..
You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive.

Global Warning vs Global Dimming

Secrets Of The Mind

Dr. Vilayanur Ramachandran, an eloquent neuroscientist, is fascinated by patients who have unusual abilities or defects in the way they perceive the world. These include such puzzling phenomena as the phantom pain experienced in a missing, amputated limb, or the inability to recognize a familiar face following a stroke. From these strange cases, Ramachandran is building a novel vision of how the brain works. In "Secrets of the Mind," NOVA dramatizes the intimate stories of Ramachandran's encounters with his extraordinary patients.

Do not pump full tank of petrol

Can anyone verify this???

Many of us are not aware that the petrol kiosk pump has a return pipe-line (in black). When the petrol tank (in the car) reaches full level, there is a mechanism to trigger off the pump latch and at the same time a return-valve is opened (at the top of the pump station) to allow excess petrol to flow back into the sump. But the return petrol has already pass through the meter, meaning you are donating the petrol back to SHELL/ PETRONAS/ CALTEX/MOBIL. .........

BEWARE OF HOTEL'S CARD KEYS

This is pretty good info. Never even thought about key cards containing anything other than an access code for the room!

HOTEL KEY CARDS
Ever wonder what is on your magnetic key card?

Answer:

a. Customer's name

b. Customer's partial home address

c. Hotel room number

d. Check-in date and out dates

e. Customer's credit card number and expiration date!

When you turn them in to the front desk your personal information is there for any employee to access by simply scanning the card in the hotel scanner. An employee can take a hand full of cards home and using a scanning device, access the information onto a laptop computer and go shopping at your expense.

Simply put, hotels do not erase the information on these cards until an employee reissues the card to the next hotel guest. At that time, the new guest's information is electronically "overwritten" on the card and the previous guest's information is erased in the overwriting process.

But until the card is rewritten for the next guest, it usually is kept in a drawer at the front desk with YOUR INFORMATION ON IT!

The bottom line is: Keep the cards, take them home with you, or destroy them. NEVER leave them behind in the room or room wastebasket, and NEVER turn them into the front desk when you check out of a room. They will not charge you for the card (it's illegal) and you'll be sure you are not leaving a lot of valuable personal information on it that could be easily lifted off with any simple scanning device card reader.

For the same reason, if you arrive at the airport and discover you still have the card key in your pocket, do not toss it in an airport trash basket. Take it home and destroy it by cutting it up, especially through the electronic information strip!

If you have a small magnet, pass it across the magnetic strip several times. Then try it in the door, it will not work. It erases everything on the card.

Blood Clots / Stroke

STROKE: Remember
The 1st Three Letters.... S.T.R.

My nurse friend sent this and encouraged me to post it and spread the word.
I agree.

If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks.
Seriously..

Please read:

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:

During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) .....she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening

Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Ingrid passed awa y.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today. Some don't die.... they end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.

It only takes a minute to read this...

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke... totally . He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR . Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S * Ask the individual
to SMILE.

T * Ask the person
to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)

(i.e. It is sunny out today)

R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call 999/911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other , thatis also an indication of a stroke.

Bank ATM's Converted to Steal IDs of Bank Customers

A team of organized criminals are installing equipment on legitimate bank ATM's in at least 2 regions to steal both the ATM card number and the PIN. The team sits nearby in a car receiving the information transmitted wirelessly over weekends and evenings from equipment they install on the front of the ATM (see photos). If you see an attachment like this, do not use the ATM and report it immediately to the bank using the phone on the front of the ATM.

The equipment used to capture your ATM card number and PIN are cleverly disguised to look like normal ATM equipment. A "skimmer" is mounted to the front of the normal ATM card slot that reads the ATM card number and transm its it to the criminals sitting in a nearby car.

At the same time, a wireless camera is disguised to look like a leaflet holder and is mounted in a position to view ATM PIN entries.

The thieves copy the cards and use the PIN numbers to withdraw thousands from many accounts in a very short time directly from the bank ATM.

Equipment being installed on front of existing bank card slot

The equipment as it appears installed over the normal ATM bank slot

The PIN reading camera being installed on the ATM is housed in an innocent looking leaflet enclosure

The camera shown installed and ready to capture PIN's by looking down on the keypad as you enter your PIN

Tips on Filling your Vehicles...

This is a Message received from a friend:

I don't know what you guys are paying for petrol... but here in Durban, we are also paying higher, up to 47.35 per litre. But my line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money's worth for every litre.
Here at the Marian Hill Pipeline, where I work in Durban, we deliver about 4 million litres in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline.
One day is diesel; the next day is jet fuel, and petrol, LRP and Unleaded. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 litres.

ONLY BUY OR FILL UP YOUR CAR OR BIKKIE IN THE EARLY MORNING WHEN THE GROUND TEMPERATURE IS STILL COLD.
Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground, the denser the fuel, when it gets warmer petrol expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening.... your litre is not exactly a litre.
In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the petrol, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products play an important role. A 1degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

WHEN YOU'RE FILLING UP, DO NOT SQUEEZE THE TRIGGER OF THE NOZZLE TO A FAST MODE.
If you look, you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode, you should be pumping on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapours that are created, while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapour return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapour. Those vapours are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money.

ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT TIPS IS TO FILL UP WHEN YOUR TANK IS HALF FULL.
The reason for this is, the more fuel you have in your tank, the less air occupying its empty space. Petrol evaporates faster than you can imagine. Petroleum storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the petrol and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation.Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated, so that every litre is actually the exact amount.

ANOTHER REMINDER, IF THERE IS A FUEL TRUCK PUMPING INTO THE STORAGE TANKS, WHEN YOU STOP TO BUY, DO NOT FILL UP
Most likely the petrol/diesel is being stirred up as the fuel is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.
Hope, this will help you get the maximum value for your money.

DO SHARE THESE TIPS WITH OTHERS! LET’S SHARE INFORMATION AND BENEFIT ALL, FOR THE BETTER OF MANKIND.

Genius out there?? Where is my $1???

Could any genius out there please figure this out for me? i'm really so not good with maths

Figure this out:
Three guys in a hotel call room service and order two large pizzas. The delivery boy brings them up with a bill for exactly $30.00. Each guy gives him a $10.00 bill, and he leaves.
That's fact!

When he hands the $30.00 to the cashier, he is told a mistake was made.
The bill was only $25.00, not $30.00. The cashier gives the delivery boy five $1.00 bills and tells him to take it back to the 3 guys who ordered the pizza.
That's fact!

On the way back to their room, the delivery boy has a thought... these guys did not give him a tip. He figures that since there is no way to split $5.00 evenly three ways anyhow, he will keep two dollars forhimself and givethem back three dollars.
OK! So far so good!

He knocks on the door and one fellow answers. He explains about a mix up in the bill, and hands the guy the three dollars, then departs with his two-dollar tip in his pocket.

Now the fun begins!

Remember $30-$25=$5 Right? $5-$3=$2 Right?

So what's the problem?
All is well, right?
Not quite. Answer this:

Each of the three guys originally gave $10.00 each. They each got back $1.00 in change. That means they paid $9.00 each, which times three is $27.00. The delivery boy kept $2.00 for a tip.

$27.00 plus $2.00 equals $29.00.
Where is the other dollar ! ??????????

Mobile Phone

Be careful when U use yr Mobile Phone !!!

When you try to call someone through mobile phone, don't put your mobile closer to your ears until the recipient answers, Because directly after dialing, the mobile phone would use it's maximum

Signaling power, which is: 2watts = 33dbi. Please Be Careful.

Please use left ear while using cell (mobile ), because if you use the right one it will affect brain directly.

Fun with Facts

1: If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.
(Hardly seems worth it.)

2:If you farted consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb.
(Now that's more like it!)

3: The human heart creates enough pressure when it pumps out to the body to squirt blood 30 feet
(Like O.M.G.!)

4: A pig's orgasm lasts 30 minutes.
(What the??? In my next life, I want to be a pig.)

5: A cockroach will live nine days without its head before it starves todeath. (Creepy)
(I'm still not over the pig.)

6: Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories a hour
(Don't try this at home, maybe at work)

7: The male praying mantis cannot copulate while its head is attached to its body. The female initiates sex by ripping the male's head off.
("Honey, I'm home. What the...?!")

8: The flea can jump 350 times its body length. It's like a human jumping the length of a football field.
(30 minutes..lucky pig! Can you imagine?)

9: The catfish has over 27,000 taste buds.
(What could be so tasty on the bottom of a pond?)

10: Some lions mate over 50 times a day.
(I still want to be a pig in my next life...quality over quantity)

11: Butterflies taste with their feet.
(Something I always wanted to know.)

12: The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue.
(Hmmmmmm......)

13: Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people.
(If you're ambidextrous, do you split the difference?)

14: Elephants are the only animals that cannot jump.
(okay, so that would be a good thing)

15: A cat's urine glows under a black light.
(I wonder who was paid to figure that out?)

16: An ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain.
(I know some people like that.)

17: Starfish have no brains
(I know some people like that too.)

18: Polar bears are left-handed.
(If they switch, they'll live a lot longer)

19: Humans and dolphins are the only species that have sex for pleasure.
(What about that pig??)

Melamine Fuss

Here's attachment i received from emails about melamine threat....don't know how true the info about the product involved but it's good to know melamine catastrophe effects.....

China milk poisoning incidents make everyone afraid to look at the daily news report. Every day, the reports are changing. No one can clearly tell us what to eat and not to eat.

1. What really is poisoned milk
It is the milk powder mixed with "MELAMINE"
What is Melamine use for… ..It is an industrial chemical use in the production of melawares.
It is also used in home decoration. "US resistant board"
Melamine is use in industrial production and it cannot be eaten.

2. Why is Melamine added in milk powder
The most important nutrient in milk is protein. And Melamine has the same protein that contains "NITROGEN".

Adding Melamine in milk reduces milk content and it is cheaper then milk so it lowers capitalization. It can give the business man more profit! Melamine doesn't it look like milk it doesn't have any smell, so cannot be detected.

3.When was it discovered
Year 2007 US cats and dogs died suddenly, they found that pet food from China contains Melamine.
Starting 2008 in China, abnormal increase of infant cases of kidney stones.
In August 2008 China Sanlu Milk Powder was tested with Melamine….
Sept. 2008 New Zealand government has asked China to check this problem…
Sept. 21, 2008 lots of food products in Taiwan tested with Melamine

4. What happens when Melamine is digested
Melamine remains inside the kidney. It forms into stones blocking the tubes. Pain will be eminent and person cannot urinate. Kidney will then swell.

Although surgery can remove can remove the stones, it will cause irreversible damage to kidney. It can lead to loss of kidney function and will require kidney dialysis or lead to death because of uremia. What is dialysis In fact, it should be called "blood washing" It is filtering all of the body's blood into the machine and then go back to the body.
The whole process takes 4 hours and it is necessary to dialysis once for every 3 days for the rest of your life. Here is a dialysis center....
Large dialysis center....
A small hole is required in the arm to insert the sub-dialysis catheter.
Why is it more serious in babies. Because the kidney is very small and they drink a lot of milk powder. Here is a baby undergoing dialysis.
China currenty has 13,000 infants hospitalized
It does not matter how much a human being took Melamine. The important point is "It cannot be EATEN!"

5.What are the foods to be avoided?
Foods that contain dairy products should be avoided.
Remember: Foods with creamer or milk should be avoided.

6.Which companies are affected
Hereunder are the companies affected with Melamine.

7.What do we do next
Avoid the above foods for at least six months. If you have snack bar, restaurant or coffee shops. Stop selling dairy products for the meantime. If you have infants at home, change to mother's milk or find other substitutes. Finally, share this information with friends so they will understand the risk of milk poisoning.

8. Official test failures of the 2008 Chinese milk scandal
